Creative Kids Club
In July of 2023, I had the opportunity to collaborate with RED VELVET to host a hands-on activity for Start-Up Kids Club, a nonprofit providing youth entrepreneurship programs for Kâ8 students. We welcomed a group of sixth-grade girls to our headquarters, and together with my team members, Genesis Cosme and Missy Fleshman, we created a unique experience that introduced these young minds to the world of event marketing.
Drawing from my experience in art direction, I crafted an interactive activity inspired by my own creative process. Armed with $400 of "fake money," rental printouts, and an idea for a back-to-school bash, the girls dove into moodboarding, event planning, and budgeting. They chose color schemes, imagined earring-making stations, and even dreamed of a Taylor Swift performance. It was incredible to watch their imaginations unfold as they pieced together their vision for the event.
This exercise highlighted the power of early exposure to creative careers. The girls' thoughtful approach to each decision, from venues to decor, reminded me that the future of our industry lies in fostering curiosity and confidence in the next generation. By providing them with the tools to bring their ideas to life, we helped them see the endless possibilities ahead.
The activity was a success, filled with laughter, learning, and newfound confidence in navigating the components of event creation. Iâm grateful to have played a part in this initiative and am excited for the future leaders emerging from programs like Start-Up Kids Club.
